ESSENTIAL OILS AND THERE USES

In our efforts to keep our horses healthy and to help recovery when needed, we have investigated many therapies. We have used, successfully, accupuncture, electical stimulation, herbs, fastrack and now essential oils and some new technology products. We prefer to use natural products and non-invasive procedures when at all possible. Essential oils, those carefully processed to keep them as pure and as concetrated as possible is one of two new methods we are employing in the care of our horses' health.

Some of the oils and what research on humans and horses has shown them to be effective for.

1. Asthma and Allergies.

2. Calming effects.

3. Improved reproductive performance, mares and stallions; Better semen quality and quantity in stallions.

4. Softer(better) attitude.

5. Arthuritis relief.

6. Better appetites.

7. Better developed muscling.

8. Hardier & Healthier Horses.

9. Mares Milk More.

What are Essential Oils?

Essentail oils are those derived from plants and herbs. They are part of the life blood, so to speak of the palnt kingdom. They have been used for centuries in the past as cures and preventatives. Each plant used to get these oils is specially processed. It is critical that these oils not be diluted other than using certain oils, or altered, or they do not preform properly.

Since we have just starting using these oils. We have little first hand experience. We currently have two horses using thru an inhalor. One mare, we discovered a couple of weeks later, has pollen allergies we had not suspected. Her respirtory problems from allergies are now being treated with a different mix and appear to be abating, however the treatment is too early to tell how completely. We may need to use a different oil or add another to the combination being used for the therapy.

We have also used a combination called Peace and Calming on two mares, one of which had a very tramatic first trailering experience. Without the peace and calming we could not get her to step into the trailer and she was reluctant to approach it. eith the Peace and Calming she not only approached the trailer easily, but walked right in.

We are also trying a combination called RC and Lemongrass on a young horse that was severly injured in a kicking episode. It damaged the cruciate ligament and caused OCD on the stiffle. Since the injury is a year old we expect a longer healing time, if we can still get more healing. We have been using other natural products on this horse (herbs, msm and liquids devils claw) which has brought sucess greater than we were told could happen without extensive and expensive surgery. He was not expected to trot or cantor due to the extreme limitations the legs mobility from the injury. However is not only troting, with suspension in hte trot, but cantoring as well. He has even done a few flying lead changes. Look to the technology section for other items we will be trying to help him.
